This recipe is so easy to make and only requires a few simple ingredients: tofu, soy sauce or tamari (for gluten-free), liquid smoke, maple syrup, ground pepper, and salt.
First marinate the tofu in the soy sauce and liquid smoke for about 5 minutes. Then pan fry until golden brown, add the maple syrup and pepper and cook until all the maple syrup becomes sticky and caramelized.

Vegan Bacon - Maple and Pepper Tofu
Ingredients
- 1 block tofu (14 oz) pressed and cut into triangles
- 2 tbsp soy sauce tamari for gluten free
- 10 drops liquid smoke
- ¼ cup maple syrup
- 1 tbsp freshly ground pepper
- salt to season
Instructions
- Combine the tofu, maple syrup, and liquid smoke and marinate for about 5 minutes
- Heat a non-stick pan over medium heat and add some oil to prevent the tofu from sticking. Pan fry the tofu until golden brown, 2 - 3 minutes per side.
- Add the maple syrup and ground pepper to the pan and continue cooking and stirring until the maple syrup starts to get sticky and caramelize.
- Plate the tofu and add a pinch of salt to the dish.
