Vegan Bacon - Maple and Pepper Tofu

This tofu substitute for vegan bacon is smokey, sweet, and peppery. It's super easy to make, requires few ingredients and is a delicious vegan breakfast!

Ingredients
  

  • 1 block tofu (14 oz) pressed and cut into triangles
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce tamari for gluten free
  • 10 drops liquid smoke
  • ΒΌ cup maple syrup
  • 1 tbsp freshly ground pepper
  • salt to season

Instructions
 

  • Combine the tofu, maple syrup, and liquid smoke and marinate for about 5 minutes
  • Heat a non-stick pan over medium heat and add some oil to prevent the tofu from sticking. Pan fry the tofu until golden brown, 2 - 3 minutes per side.
  • Add the maple syrup and ground pepper to the pan and continue cooking and stirring until the maple syrup starts to get sticky and caramelize.
  • Plate the tofu and add a pinch of salt to the dish.

Notes

This dish can be gluten-free by swapping out the soy sauce for tamari.
